LA SALSA HELPS “DELIVER” FUNDS TO EXPAND NEONATAL INTENSIVE CARE UNIT AT SADDLEBACK MEMORIAL

Orange County residents turned out in record numbers to help give the gift of life to the fragile infants and newborns cared for at Saddleback Memorial Medical Center’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). Nearly 250 hospital supporters, staff and former NICU patients and their families participated in the fundraising event, which was held in conjunction with the grand opening of La Salsa Fresh Mexican Grill. Featuring live big band music and complimentary food and refreshments provided by La Salsa, the special event generated nearly $1,500 via donations and raffle ticket sales to help underwrite a number of revolutionary “giraffe” isolette care units as part of a project to expand the neonatal intensive care unit at Saddleback Memorial.

“We are delighted that so many Orange County residents turned out to help us celebrate our grand opening and raise funds for this very worthy cause,” said Michael Liby, executive vice president and COO of La Salsa Fresh Mexican Grill. “The NICU at Saddleback Memorial truly is one of this community’s most vital healthcare resources and I wish to thank the public for their kindness and generous support.”

Used by physicians to treat fragile infant and newborn patients who require the most delicate and stable healing environment possible, the multi-functional “giraffe” isolette units feature a number of technological advancements including the ability to convert from an infant incubator to a warming unit, thus eliminating the potentially harmful process of moving patients from one piece of equipment to another. The isolettes were nicknamed “giraffes’ because of their telescoping overhead arms that resemble the animal’s necks.

Saddleback Memorial Medical Center is the first non-profit, full-service hospital in the Saddleback Valley and has been serving south Orange County residents for nearly 30 years. In addition to its comprehensive neonatal intensive care unit, Saddleback Memorial offers complete 24-hour critical care as well as an array of women’s, senior, surgical and general healthcare services. Saddleback Memorial Foundation raises funds to support new programs, services, facilities, and equipment for Saddleback Memorial Medical Center.
